I discovered my passion for programming at high school. While following Bucky Roberts’ (@thenewboston) Java tutorials on YouTube, I built my first simple games and applications.
Bachelor’s in Informatics
Afterwards, I went to the University of Žilina (UNIZA) to become a Bachelor of Informatics. Getting through the introduction to computing algorithms, object-oriented programming, database systems, software modeling, probability and statistics, data science, and basics of economics, I finished my bachelors of informatics with my self-made project on a web-blogging platform for fans of aviation. During my studies I got accepted for my first internship at PosAm.
Master of Computing Science
After beginning my Master’s studies at the UNIZA, I made the decision to expand my horizons and pursue my studies in Distributed Systems and Software Engineering at the University of Groningen (RUG).
People often ask me how did I decide to pick RUG, and the answer is: it was highly rated, had a programme which interested me, I could study in English, and it didn’t cost an arm and a leg for me as an EU citizen.
During my studies, I learned a lot not only about distributed systems, but primarily about academic research in computing science, alongside sustainability electives I took a part in. I took my second internship here at ASML, and also completed the mandatory internship project with PosAm.
However, my biggest takeaway from the university by far is the people I met. Learning to collaborate on advanced projects with internationals from every which part of the world is difficult. Finding some of the most meaningful connections and having so many experiences with people from vastly different cultures compared to mine is incredible.
